Part time Project Officer - Beyond the Binary HLF Project

Grade 6: £28,660 - £34,189 p.a. (pro rata)

The Pitt Rivers Museum has been awarded funding by the Heritage Lottery Fund to deliver Beyond the Binary: Queering and Questioning Collections and Displays at the Pitt Rivers Museum. This 18-month LGBTQ+ engagement programme builds on existing engagement work with LGBTQ+ stakeholders and sets out an ambitious programme to build inclusive practice within the Museum. Beyond the Binary will work with communities that identify as LGBTQ+ to question permanent collections as well as acquire new objects from Britain and the globe, that highlight traditions of gender and sexuality. It will power a series of events to encourage discussion on LGBTQ+ heritage, including cultural performances and a co-curated exhibition involving community training in conservation, display and interpretation.

The Project Officer will work closely with the Beyond the Binary Collections and Exhibitions Officer, museum staff and the LGBTQ+ community to ensure that the outcomes in the project plan are delivered. They will lead on partnership building, on network events, and on recruiting, inducting and supporting the community volunteers in their work. The postholder will advise on, deliver and/or support the training of community volunteers to deliver a range of activities, including exhibition preparation and delivery, takeover style and other events, sector facing training, film training, acquisition of new objects, managing project groups and evaluation.

This is a part-time post 0.6FTE/3 days a week.

Closing date: 12.00 midday on Monday 12 November 2018.
