Please note that we are a research and teaching department of the University of Oxford. We are not a picture library and cannot supply images at very short notice.
Using existing images
Existing images of the collections can be viewed through the online collections database. The images displayed here are usually both highly compressed and auto-adjusted for levels on an undifferentiated basis. Due to this, the resulting quality as seen on screen may not reflect the original photograph.
For personal and teaching use
Lower-quality images can be taken directly from the object’s catalogue entry page for personal use, private study, academic theses and student essays that are not being published, and free educational lectures or classes, in accordance with Creative Commons.
If you would like to reproduce an image of our collections online or in print, please complete a publication license application (linked below) with as much information as possible and send it to email@example.com. All images are supplied in digital format, either as TIFF or JPEG files. We aim to process all orders within 30 days.
Selected images from the historic photograph collection are available for order online as framed or unframed prints delivered to your door. A selection of around 700 images is also available to order online from the Bridgeman Art Library. These images have all been pre-cleared for editorial use.
Where there is no suitable existing image, we may be able to produce new high-quality photography of the majority of objects in our collections for publication. If you would like to order new photography, please complete the appropriate licence application form below and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note this will incur a minimum additional cost of £15 per image, and there may be a delay beyond 30 days for processing these requests.
