Session Outline
The first half of the session will be an opportunity to look at the work of Nyema Droma and Christian Thompson in detail. This will take the form of a presentation and discussion. Students will analyse the work of both artists looking at composition; gesture, form, colour and the role of the sitter. Students will gain an understanding of othering, coloniality and self-representation and to support this, students will be able to handle copies of some of the archival material used by Nyema Droma and Christian Thompson in their research.
The second half of the session will take the form of a guided tour of the Pitt Rivers, exploring other contemporary art responses and focusing on self-representation through LGBTQIA+ histories within the museum’s displays. A short sketchbook introduction is optional at the end.
‘To receive a Live Stream, one to one guided tour was so special, you gave each pupil the opportunity to engage with Primary Research in a way that is impossible with the current climate with your innovative online approach.’
