Indulge in the therapeutic process of hand-weaving on a professional multi-shaft loom. Work at your own pace and explore colour and texture combinations as your design grows on the loom. Under the guidance of weaver, designer, colour-lover and author, Angie Parker, you will weave a cushion panel on a four-shaft table loom in this one-day workshop.
Start the day by designing your cushion using yarn wraps and then jump straight into the fun part of weaving on a pre-threaded four-shaft table loom. Angie leads you through each process with clear instructions and encouragement. No previous weaving experience required. With access to a wide range of Angie's colourful yarns, you can let your creativity run wild while learning different weave structures, including plain and twill. The looms will be threaded up in preparation for this workshop and the session can be adapted to meet the requirements of each participant. Participants are welcome to bring images or textile samples which inspire them but this isn't essential - often the materials in the room are inspiration enough!
Once each participant has finished designing and weaving their panel, Angie transforms the woven sample into a simple cushion for you to take home. There is an additional textile activity available for participants to undertake whilst Angie turns into a 'cushion sewing bee' at the end of the session.
What you can expect:
- Guidance from professional weaver and author, Angie Parker
- Use of professional weaving equipment and quality materials
- Colour!
- Fun and gentle conversation whilst indulging in some therapeutic weaving.
What you'll leave with:
- An original decorative cushion designed and woven by yourself
- Weaving experience and at least two weave structures
- An appreciation for handwoven cloth.
IMPORTANT: The workshop is ideally a standing activity that involves repeated action. Participants who suffer from lower back pain through standing may experience some discomfort. Seating is available and participants can weave sitting down if required. Taking regular breaks is recommended.
