• Learn how cultures and communities represented in the Pitt Rivers Museum decorate their bodies as a form of self-expression.
• Learn design skills through looking at artefacts and imaginative engagement.
• Learn how to shape different kinds of material to realise a 3D form.
• Develop observational drawing skills in a museum space.
Session Outline
This is a practical drawing session where students will examine how and why people decorate the body using jewellery, tattoos, clothing and other ornamentation.
Students will have the opportunity to observe and draw relevant artefacts in the museum, focusing on shape, pattern, form and design.
They will then design and create a small, patterned, wearable relief sculpture that reflects aspects of the wearer's identity.
