Plysplit braiding talk poster

Friday 16 April 2027, 17.00 - 19.30

Tickets: £10 Book here

Members: £8 Book here

Helen Leaf talks about ply-split braiding, a unique textile technique from the deserts of Rajasthan, used to make decorative belts for camels. From here it came to the UK via the renowned weaver Peter Collingwood, and then on to the US, Japan and beyond.

You’ll hear about the history and tradition of the technique, understand how it came to us here in the UK, and see examples of how it’s moving forward and being used in a contemporary way. There will be time for questions at the end, and the opportunity to see a collection of traditional and contemporary ply-split pieces.
