Mbira & The Tales of Tsuro Na Gudo

Saturday 18 May, 14.00 - 15.00

Free performance on the Clore Balcony. No booking required.

Presented by the Pitt Rivers Museum, John Falsetto Music & Meet My Ancestors

Enter the world of our ancestors, where spirits roam free and tricksters abound. The stunning Zimbabwean storyteller and Mbira musician, John Pfumojena, takes us from the floor of the Pitt Rivers Museum to the very heart of Southern Africa.

In Shona culture, animal stories are for both children and grown-ups. But don't be deceived by the claws, paws and fluffy ears - like Tom and Jerry gone off-piste, these stories reflect humanity at its worst, its best, its surest and its most confused!

Filled with charlatans and tricksters, heroes and villains, we follow the epic adventures of the hare and baboon, tortoise and birds, and other beings all conjured up by the ancient and mystical Mbira rhythms that lure you down a special rabbit hole.

Suitable for all ages.

Running time: 45 minutes

Location: The Clore Balcony, Pitt Rivers Museum
