Drawing Connections
National Curriculum Subject Areas: Art and Design
Length of session: 90 minutes
Maximum group size: 32
Learning Outcomes
• Learn how to critically engage with objects in the museum through handling, discussion, observation and drawing.
• Learn how to combine visual research with contextual information and personal response over one or two pages.
• Develop observational drawing skills in a museum space.
Session Outline
This is a practical drawing session where students will get the opportunity to examine and analyse an unidentified object from our handling collection and draw directly from it. They will then investigate the main collection to find clues about their chosen object, making links with similar artefacts. Students will also learn how to draw from these objects effectively in the museum space.
They will then work towards creating a visually engaging outcome that combines both observational and imaginative drawings, information about their objects and an annotated personal response.
