Decoloniality - Fast Fashion & Sustainability

Tuesday 2 November, 16.30 - 17.30

Session 1 of our new online series Thinking about Things aimed at 15-18 year olds

During this session we will be discussing the ways that fashion, sustainability and decolonisation crossover. The condemnation of the fashion industry and its role in the climate crisis is not new, and a push towards ‘sustainable’ fashion has become key to the industry.

This move towards a so-called sustainability often reinforces Western exclusion and exploitation of non-Western fashion systems, practices and communities.

We will attempt to start unpicking these issues and to find out about practices and activists who present possibilities for a fashionably sustainable future, a future built upon multiple ways of knowing and being, both from an environmental and culturally ethical perspective.

If you're aged 15 - 18, email Melanie.rowntree@prm.ox.ac.uk to get the Zoom code to access the meeting.
