Pitt Rivers Outreach

outreach activities

The Pitt Rivers outreach programme is part of the Need / Make / Use project. Between 2013 and 2017 we are taking the Pitt-Rivers ‘experience’ to events, fetes and festivals in and around Oxfordshire, as well as running activities with external partners. We hope to reach out to communities that may not have had the opportunity to visit the Museum, so they can engage with the collections in new ways through object handling objects, craft activities and workshops.

In 2015 we visited Abingdon Fun in the Park at Abbey Grounds, linked to General Pitt-Rivers’ Dorset Estate collections at Salisbury Museum’s Festival of Archaeology, joined the Joint Museums Outreach Service at Oxfordshire Play Days is Wallingford, surprised shoppers at Marriotts Walk in Witney and popped up at Florence Park Village Fete!

We are delighted to be joining Oxford Pride at this year's Pride event in the Oxford Castle Quarter. Come along and visit our stall to handle real Museum objects and to find out about Out in Oxford, our 2017 LGBTQ+ community project.
